Consent gained to convert listed terrace into a hotel and apartments
ReardonSmith Architects gained planning consent in 2004 for the conversion of this Georgian Grade II listed terrace in Great Cumberland Place, London W1 into a boutique hotel and apartments. The application, which was described by the Chairman of the Planning Sub–Committee at the time as establishing a new benchmark in professionalism and quality of response, was for the development of an 83–bedroom hotel with a restaurant/bar, fitness studio and three meeting rooms.
Two of the properties were not listed and ReardonSmith used this opportunity to open up the ground floor space to accommodate a sitting room, lobby and reception. Beyond this, an extension to the rear, making up approximately 20% of the building, incorporated several mews cottages, providing space for the restaurant and bar, together with a kitchen and stores. One of the intriguing features to remain, however, was than 18th century privy extending out from the building at second floor level.
