Acting for the new owners, ReardonSmith has recently won planning and listed building consent for a scheme that will transform a small hotel building in London’s Victoria from a state of neglect into a cosy, traditional hotel ready for luxury hotel operator David Stein to add to his portfolio.
Almost all the original features of the 1828 property have long been stripped out and the larger bedrooms sub-divided; access throughout the Hotel is poor. The building will be stripped back to its envelope, retaining only the two original staircases, and will then be re-built and fitted out in a style that replicates a number of the early features. Removal of the mezzanine level at the rear will allow a small extension to the property. Bedrooms will be returned to their earlier, more generous and luxurious proportions, some with terraces overlooking the gardens of Eccleston Square and the requirements of a high quality hotel operation will be further met by replacing the one existing lift with two. A significant intervention in the basement will create a light well and convert a previously dead area into a pleasant space for the breakfast room. All services will be new, the listed façade will be restored and solar panels will be introduced on the roof.
