Planning and listed building consent gained for boutique hotel
ReardonSmith won planning and listed building consent for a scheme to transform a small hotel building in London’s Victoria from a state of neglect into a cosy town house hotel.
Almost all the original features of the 1828 property had long been stripped out and the larger bedrooms sub-divided; access throughout the Hotel was poor. The plan was to strip the building back to its envelope, retaining only the two original staircases, and then re-build it in a style that replicated a number of the early features. Removal of the mezzanine level at the rear was to allow for a small extension.
The scheme proposed that bedrooms would be returned to their earlier, more generous and luxurious proportions, some with terraces overlooking the gardens of Eccleston Square, and that the requirements of a high quality hotel operation would be further met by replacing the one existing lift with two. A significant intervention in the basement was proposed to create a light well and convert a previously dead area into a pleasant space for a breakfast room. All services were to be new, the listed façade restored and solar panels introduced on the roof.
