ReardonSmith has recently handled the re-planning and refurbishment of The Franklin Hotel in Knightsbridge, taking the project through to the construction phase. The Hotel comprises four elegant town houses that were originally converted to a small hotel some 15 years ago and the aim of the architectural scheme was to optimise The Franklin’s lovely location, overlooking an expanse of private gardens, while increasing the Hotel’s operating potential.
The ground floor was totally re-planned, replacing bedrooms with public areas and moving the main entrance to provide easy access to a new restaurant, lounge and bar, all located alongside the gardens, as well as to provide direct views from the entrance lobby to the gardens beyond. In addition, a brand new kitchen was planned together with a luxury spa in the basement. The single largest architectural intervention, however, was to be the connection, for the first time, of all the former houses at upper level, thereby allowing for the removal of a staircase and creating space to re-model the bedrooms previously tucked around the stairway.
The project is currently on site.
