Designing the first five–star hotel in Belarus
Instructed by Visor Investment Solutions, ReardonSmith recently developed schemes for a new Hyatt Regency in Minsk.
The location for the Hotel was exceptional – a green swathe of land, complete with orchards, overlooking Minsk's largest lake, yet no distance from the city centre and adjacent to an arterial road and tramline. ReardonSmith's concept was to harness the beauty of the natural environment on one side, while managing the relationship with the city on the other by means of bold, unadorned architectural styling in keeping with much of Minsk. From the road, the view was to be of a "closed", low–rise building, only glimpsed through a screen of full–height columns.
Moving into the site, however, the story became one of glass and crystal with a magnificent curved glass canopy soaring over the entire building, together with a rear elevation almost totally in glass opening the hotel up to the view and catching the moving reflections of the lake beyond. The hotel was planned to accommodate some 240 keys, a spa and health club, a nightclub and restaurants, as well as bars and lounges.
