Work on site is underway at The Savoy in a £100 million project that will re-affirm the extraordinary heritage of this iconic hotel. ReardonSmith is leading the design team in the programme that includes the remodelling, redesign or redecoration of all guestrooms and public areas, the introduction of an entirely new services infrastructure and the structural stabilisation of the listed front façade. This significant feat of engineering will stabilise the roof trusses from which the façade is suspended and arrest their corrosion; the exterior faience will also be restored.
The refurbished public areas will celebrate the finest of Art Deco with which The Savoy has become synonymous with the transformation of the river front restaurant and the new Beaufort Bar. The world famous American Bar will be stripped out for new services and re-built to look as before while a long lost feature will be recalled in the re-introduction of a magnificent stained glass dome over the central Thames Foyer. Re-planning of the guestroom levels will make way for larger, five-fixture bathrooms and the designer, Pierre Yves Rochon, has developed luxurious schemes in both an Edwardian-inspired, classic English vernacular and in 1920’s Art Deco. The 12 authentic Art Deco guestrooms will be faithfully restored. Back-of-house, works will encompass new kitchens, the latest heating and sprinkler systems and modern staff facilities.
