Leading the design team in the restoration of an iconic hotel
Work on site is well underway at The Savoy on a £100 million project that will re-affirm the extraordinary heritage of this iconic hotel. ReardonSmith is leading the design team in a programme that includes the restoration, redesign or redecoration of all guestrooms and public areas, the introduction of an entirely new services infrastructure and the structural stabilisation of the listed front façade. This significant feat of engineering will stabilise the roof trusses from which the façade is suspended and arrest their corrosion. The exterior faience and the main forecourt entrance are also being refurbished.
World-renowned interior designer Pierre Yves Rochon has developed schemes to impart new glamour and luxury throughout the hotel, echoing the very finest of 1920’s Art Deco combined with an Edwardian-inspired, classic English style, both synonymous with The Savoy. The river front restaurant is being transformed and a new Bar introduced complete with The Savoy’s refurbished 1930’s stage. The legendary American Bar has been stripped out for new services and will be re-built as before, while a magnificent stained glass dome will be reinstated over the central Thames Foyer, returning natural light into the heart of the building. The 12 authentic Art Deco guestrooms are being faithfully restored. Elsewhere, re-planning of the guestroom floors will make way for larger, five-fixture bathrooms as well as 10 additional suites. Back-of-house, works encompass new kitchens, the latest heating and sprinkler systems and modern staff facilities.
