Travelodge, Waterloo
New hotel on-site in London
Construction has begun of a new 284-key Travelodge near London’s Waterloo Station. Designed by ReardonSmith in collaboration with architects Stanton Williams, who were responsible for the façade, the hotel will extend across three sites previously occupied by two structurally unsound buildings and a Georgian property that had been an office. The latter will remain, while the other two buildings will be demolished.
The scheme brings high quality design to the building envelope while realising internal layouts to meet the brand standard. At street level, there will be a contemporary café bar together with a large restaurant. This will wrap around the front of the new building into the side street and, with the benefit of full height windows, will lend life and colour to the locality while providing an attractive amenity for local people as well as for hotel guests.
Landscaping to the site was an important consideration, involving consultation with neighbouring residents, and the side street is to become a shared surface with new trees and paved drive.
